What we keep
- Your phone number and name, so James can text you back.
- A short profile James writes about you: your company, what you build, what you asked for and what he did. It is how the third conversation is better than the first.
- The messages you exchange with James and the tasks he ran for you.
- Records of purchase approvals: amount, merchant, when, and the outcome.
- Basic technical logs: message sizes, timings and errors.
- Only if you chose 20% off for helping James learn: records of how James did your jobs, with your content removed (see Training AI models).
What we never keep
Card numbers. Payments run through Stripe Link: you approve each purchase on your phone, Link issues a single-use card capped at the approved amount to a locked-down part of our system that types it into the merchant's page and discards it. Our AI models never see a card number, and neither do our logs.
Who else sees your data
- The AI model providers we use to run James, who process conversations to generate replies under API terms that do not allow them to train on your data.
- Stripe, for membership billing and Link approvals.
- Our messaging provider, for iMessage and SMS delivery.
- Our hosting providers (Amazon Web Services and Cloudflare), where James runs.
- Calendly, when you pick a time for a call. The booking page opens with the name and email you just gave us, so you do not type them again, and Calendly uses them to set up the meeting.
- Google, X, Meta and LinkedIn, when you visit james-ai.app. We advertise James on all four, and their advertising tags on this site record page visits and whether a call was booked or a free trial started, so we can tell which ads work.
- X, when you book a call. To learn whether a booking came from one of our ads on X, we also report the booking to X directly, with a one-way hashed (SHA-256) copy of your email address. X can match that hash only to an email address it already has on file; the address itself is never sent. This is used to measure our ads, and nothing else is shared with X.
No advertiser receives your name or phone number, and apart from that hash, none receives your email address.
We do not sell your data, and James never shows you ads.
When our team can see your James
During your free week, and the days before it while we set James up, we watch, because that week is us setting James up for you. A trial is not a login and good luck. It is our team teaching him your job: which sites he works in, which of your tools he needs, the steps you want followed, and what finished looks like. To do that we can see what he is doing for you, the page he is working on and the messages in your conversation, so we can fix what he gets wrong, usually before you have noticed it. It is the same looking we do with you on a call, except we can also do it at two in the morning when something breaks. Our own staff, to make James work for your business, and nobody else.
After that, only when you say yes. By then he is set up and working, so we have no reason to be in there. From the day you start paying, we cannot see your screen or your messages. If we need to look to solve something, James texts you: what we want to see, why, and for how long. Reply YES and it opens for that time only; reply NO and we work from what you tell us. It closes by itself when the time is up, and you can close it sooner by texting STOP WATCHING. Only the owner of the account can say yes.
Every time one of us looks is recorded: when it started, the reason given, and what was read, the screen included. Ask us and we will show you.
Training AI models
Your data is private by default. When you hire James for a job, you choose one of two. Nothing is chosen for you.
- Keep my data private. The standard price. Nothing from your account is used to train any AI model, ours or anyone else's.
- Help James learn, for 20% off. We may use a record of how James does your jobs to train and improve our own AI models. The record is about how he works, not about your business: the steps he took, the kind of page he was on, and where he got stuck. We remove your content before the record is stored: what you and your customers write, the values James types, your logins and passwords, and card numbers are never part of it, and we do not try to work out who anyone is from what is left.
Either way, the AI providers that run James may not train on your data, we never sell it, and we share training records with no one except the service providers that store and process them for us. The transcript of your conversation with James when you sign up is never used for training.
Your choice holds for the whole billing month. You can change it for any later month by texting James or emailing us, and the change, including the 20% starting or stopping, takes effect from your next billing period. Switching to private stops new records from your account from then on. Records made before may still be used, and a model already trained on them keeps what it learned; ask us and we delete the records we still hold.
How long
For as long as you are a member, and up to 90 days after, unless you ask us to delete it sooner. Training records hold none of your content; we keep them while they are useful for training, and delete the ones we still hold if you ask.
Your choices
- Ask what we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted: email us.
- Disconnect your card at any time by texting James "disconnect my card"; the wallet connection is revoked at Link and forgotten on our side.
- Change your data choice for any later billing month: text James or email us.
- Stop texting James, and he stops texting you.
Security
Everything travels encrypted. Secrets live in a separate vault process that James himself cannot read. Card numbers are never stored.
Children
James is for adults; we do not knowingly keep data about anyone under 18.
